Level 1 Refereeing

Course Description

This is a full-day course; graduates are certified to referee all youth and adult rugby.  There are specific requirements that must be completed prior to taking the course and registration is online through USA Rugby, no walk-ins are permitted.

Level 1 Officiating - Vista, CA - June 18, 2016

Date & Time:  Saturday June 18 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Location:  Alta Vista High School, 1575 Bonair Rd, Vista, CA 92084

Eligibility: This is the entry or introductory level course to rugby refereeing. Registrants must have current CIPP registration with USA Rugby

 

Cost: $60 (course fee) Must be paid ahead of time at USA Rugby (see Registration below) No Walk ins

 

Certification: Current USA Rugby membership, including registration as a referee, attend and participate in all course modules, pass online law exam and rugby ready exam prior to course, and complete short safety quiz administered at course site. 

 

Description: The purpose of this introductory course is to enable officials to acquire basic skills to officiate safe, enjoyable competition. Course certification is required for anyone who wishes to referee any match that could potentially lead to a National Championship.  This course will involve up to 2 hours in a classroom and 6 hours of light exercise.  All attendees will need to be able to perform non-tackle, light contact rugby drills, refereeing exercises and will jog/run up to 5K during the day.  Please come dressed in layers to allow repeated warm up/ cool down.  Please also bring food, water, snacks and anything you will need for 8 hours

 

The course focuses on: Game knowledge, role of the referee, planning, and principles of Rugby, referee preparation, game management, risk management, and how to have fun as a Rugby referee.
