A critical factor in the success of SCYR's award-winning Player Welfare Program (PWP) is the part-time position of PWP Manager, who is responsible for overseeing key program elements.  We are excited to announce that Christine Mitchell  has been hired to take over this role, based on her extensive experience as both an athletic trainer and a medical administrator.

As PWP Manager, Christine's key duties are:

  • To manage the injury report process including parent/coach follow-up on all suspected concussions
  • To manage SCYR's concussion/return to play protocol for athletes with suspected and diagnosed concussions
  • To educate SCYR's coaches, parents, and administrators on the various elements of the PWP including athlete safety, athletic trainers, injury reporting systems and requirements, concussion baseline testing, etc.
  • To schedule & manage group concussion baseline testing sessions (team-based and community-based)
  • Review, revise and develop SCYR medical & safety policies and resources as appropriate

Christine is well-suited to this position, having first discovered a passion for athletic training as a freshman in high school and going on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Masters of Science in Human Physiology.  She has been a professional Certified Athletic Trainer for over six years, with the last three focused on athletes in grades K-12.

Christine has served numerous sports including rugby, water polo, football, soccer, volleyball and tennis among others, while working for a variety of organizations including Boston University, the New England Revolution, San Diego State University and La Jolla Country Day School, where she is currently the Head Athletic Trainer.

Christine brings significant experience in policy development and implementation, along with a strong record of educating athletes, parents and coaches on the prevention, care and rehabilitation of sports injuries, including concussion.  She has a deep understanding of California state requirements in these areas and is well suited to ensure that SCYR remains focused on the safety of our athletes and compliant with state regulations and requirements.

Please join us in welcoming Christine to SCYR!
